From Laurel:
ReplyDeleteHey Mark, thanks for going to the trouble of digitizing my song list. I noticed a couple typos that you might want to correct though.
typos:
Simply SAUCER
Una MUY Bonita
CAN Hear the Want to Be One
Once a proofreader, always a proofreader... and feel free delete this comment after the corrections have been made.
Anyway, hope you like the CD! Let me know if you like any of this stuff.
From Mark: (after a lot of UI effort trying to undo an accidental deletion):
Thanks Laurel. CD has been great! I've been meaning to call you guys to chat about it. Paul asked me if there was a discussion board and so yes, I will correct those errors shortly.....Cheers!
Some of this stuff will take a few listens before I decide if I want to keep it or not, but it's a great collection overall.
ReplyDeleteI don't have much jazz in my collection, but I really like the Empirical and Bobby Hutcherson tracks. I may need to get me some more.
Brightblack Morning Light sounds like something that Angelo Badalamenti would write for Julee Cruise. Win.
I also really like the Tussle track. Almost kind of Art of Noise-y.
The Marnie Stern song is very interesting, too. I think I'll investigate her a little more. I do like the female vocalist/noise combo.
The Steve Reid Ensemble track, "Jiggy Jiggy", sounds like it has an audience of aliens that are trying to sing along. Not that that's a bad thing. Need more listens to this.
I do have some noisy tracks in my own collection, but I just can't get behind Wayne Billy's, "Candy" and Magik Markers' "Don't Come Home". Sorry, those ones aren't joining my collection. :-)
I've actually seen Deerhoof live many years ago. For some reason I haven't gotten around to getting any of their albums. "Dummy Discards a Heart" makes me want to get out there and pick some up!
I also really like Ponytail's "Sky Drool". In some ways, the lead singer reminds me of Bow Wow Wow's Annabella.
Short but sweet: "Maria Stacks" by Thee Oh Sees. Might be fun to play on Guitar Hero if it were longer.
The Dolly & The Fashions track is nice, but the quality isn't great.
Thanks for a really interesting, great disc!
A classic Jerry mix. I finally got to listen to this CD after prying it away from Mark....you know we share the CDs...or at least we try to share them! Thanks for the new tunes Jerry.
